OK, I got a good one for ya'. Valve has tried changing every dang Q2 var to their own, yet theirs seem to do nothing while the Q2 ones work. Try "rate" versus "cl_rate". The latter says what it does, but changing it does NOTHING for my ping! However, the former does wonders when tweaked. Why has valve done this and of what use is cl_rate? It isn't stored and is always 9999.000000 when you start your game(s), even if a server limits the maxrate to 8192! How's about a list variables that actually DO something? And don't direct me to that ancient TFC site. It seems to be the only one out there, but 90% of the stuff on it doesn't work anymore. I know you can get a command list in the console, but it floods too much and the topmost things get cut off. Just bored and po'd at valve at the moment for screwing up some junk in WC (ie: if you set an angle on a player start, it reports the player start as having unused values) and wanted to see if anybody else had this "var change every patch" annoyance figured out.

Sign up on Valve's mailing list. There have been people mention useless variables and Valve employees respond with either a reason for it, or a thank you and we'll remove it in the next build.

when you use comcrash cable, you learn that some variables are usefull.

actually, when I was on cable, adjusting cl_rate helped me stop dropping packets.

dont bother.

Amazingly, since comcast@home became comcast.net and they own their own network resources, my brother hasnt had any problems. infact, they opened up the caps on up/down.

hell, they even got DHCP working.

btw, a 100 mile long peice of cat5 would attenuate out after about a couple 100 feet.

You guys take a lot of programming classes and such? Smart as hell, I swear, lol. I appreciate any improvement what-so-ever. Besides, I have no room to bitch since I have not the slightest idea about programming.

Ooookay, wrong area to post here, I should have known with the "cl_rate"s and decimal settings!

This ties in with a post on the public forum, but yes, signing up on their mailing list and giving them any and all suggestions sounds great.

I presume they were drunk half the time they were creating these games?

I am a pc tech by training. I know some networking, nothing like dave(dlinkoz). I know a little programming, mostly c/c++ and perl, nothing like seph(c) and dave(perl/just about everything else).

I do webdesign cause I make pretty pictures and dave hates coding html.

www.oesm.org - that's the latest complete design I have finished. Dave handles the display of the content with some advice by me. I would have the content in two columns, but it is his site so I let him run it how he likes.

http://antistatik.oesm.org is my site, but there really isnt anything there.

btw - I don't use flash at all. If I ever feel the need to have shit moving all over my site, I will do it with DHTML, not flash.
