Forms with enctype=multipart/form-data not submitting

Postby Niaad- » Thu Jun 26, 2003 3:30 pm

I have a few PHP scripts that we use that involve file uploading, and the only way to accomplish this is to use enctype=multipart/form-data in the form tag. However, since the server downtime any forms with this in them do not work at all. None of the variables every have any values to them and therefore nothing works. This has caused even our forums to stop working, because they have a file-uploading feature to them as well. Now I'm not sure why this is happening because we've never had an issue with this before and as far as I can tell after the server downtime everything else on our website (www.smrcenter.com) was exactly the same.

If you need any other information (like what specific scripts/pages this is happening on) let me know.

I did a quick up2date install of php to get things up and running after the weekend meltdown. I'll grab the latest version as soon as I can and get it working again.

It looks like you re-installed PHP because register_globals has been turned off. Could you turn that back on? It seems that in the latest version of PHP it defaults to off. Yes, I know relying on it being on is not exactly a great programming habit--I'm working on switching over. It being off, however, completely cripples almost everything on our site.

The compiled version and rpm version store their php.ini in different places. So I just copied the old php.ini to the spot where the compiled version expects it to be. Let me know if it's still an issue.

Thanks...forms with that enctype are submitting now and global variables are registered. However I think I've discovered another issue; file uploading doesn't appear to be working anymore, unlike before. The $_FILES array that is created when you upload a file is, well, empty...so nothing actually gets done with the file (the other form values not associated with file uploading do pass through though). This isn't working for both uploading methods we use--saving the file in a folder (moves it from a temporary directory it's saved on when it's upload to that folder), and database uploading (moves it from the temp directory to the database which is viewed later with a php script). Again, thanks for all of your help so far and I'm sorry to bug you with yet another problem.

I keep forgetting settings... Ok, file uploads are enabled. Default max size was 2mb, I up'd that to 10mb. Let me know if it needs to be higher.
