Oh say it ain't so! Not only a vicious exploit bug in ALL unreal engines, but Epic knew about it and never fixed. CEO even stated publicly that "we f@#cked up".

Old news, fixed in several ways, though one costs money if you don't have a firewall. Another is to downlaod the latest IpDrv.dll file (released late 2002) which fixes it in *seph's a fag* and U/UG. A more annoying way is to set packages to non-server-side only. However, this method can stop Linux and Mac users from joining your server because those copies only go to v4.32 .U files. They can grab and use the 4.36 files, but if they have no clue what is wrong, you just lost a gamer.

Forgot to mention. This is a bug in the web-admin. Now my question is this:

WHO THE F*CK USES WEB-ADMIN ASIDE FROM AN UTTER NEWBIE?!

I have used the web-admin once, just to see what it looked like. It was easier, but not worth the resources it used when you can do the same stuff in-game just as fast. CoS doesn't use it, I don't use it, none of the *daddy's penis* clans I used to play with used it, and thus far none of the UnF admins I know use it. Even so, if the box is on a DSL or greater line hosting a server and the idiot running it doesn't have it behind a firewall, they are ASKING to be hacked, even if it is through a game.

By the way, the worst that this hack does (from several tests done by different people) is that is causes your Unreal Engine server to crash. It does not harm the OS, it does not allow users to get root access and format a drive, and it does not put gay porno on your desktop. Wow, Epic didn't patch a harmless bug, I'm so upset.

If you wish to attempt to use this bug on my server (DLink), PM me and I'll be glad to sit here and watch you try. Just message me first so I can setup a time to be here to watch. No, I will not turn on web-admin. No, I will not turn off my firewall (either one). I won't mind watching an attempt though. Hell, if you manage to figure out a way to do it without running web-admin, I'll send the server logs to Epic and make a stop for it myself until a patch arrives.

Yeah, it's an old problem. Exactly my point... Epic should've fixed it a LONG time ago and just didn't care to. But now they put out a patch... how long after it was discovered?

Well what I was trying to say was this. The problem was EASILY removed and did not even affect most people. Granted, there are a LOT of newbies out there who think it's cool to run a web-admin server on 56k or ISDN, but are they really worth using a bug to crash their server where few play anyway?

The bug did not affect many, so why patch it? Granted, this is a bad attitude, but if you read up on it, it has not been used except in a few rare cases. The community didn't know about it as a whole and those who did were generally admins and knew how to avoid it.

I'm not covering for Epic here, they f*cked up. All I am saying is that it's a useless bug. Some idiot had to show off and expose Epic and he got his minute in the spotlight. All we're doing now is making this VERY small person feel bigger.

Most server operators are less knowledgable. Get on any admin mailling list and you'll see that! So I think it could effect more people than you think. Plus, with such an old engine, a lot of the people running their "1337 cable servers" probably don't even know to check for a new patch.
