hey tell me if this would work...
I got a 400 mghz amd k62, with 192 megs ram, on a dual oc3 conneciton. i'm going to load only linux and counter-strike, and put all the system resources into cs, network the system thru a hub along with my computer, then network them to the wall port. Think that would be a good dedicated server? it would only be like, 4v4 maybe 5v5, but a good little server for me and my friends to scrmin and play around. if anything else i'll set up a file server.

Wall port, eh? We talkin a dorm connection? If so, some "institutes of higher learning" are aware of what people are doing and block some pretty vital ports. Others have acceptable use policies that could get you in hot water. Should work well if you don't hit any road blocks.

ya they might not like it since they have blocked my ability to send thru my oesm e-mail account with outlook, but i'm pretty sure i can get them to change that. now all i gotta worry about is getting what i need, and i've already gotten a 14" monitor from cyber salvage for $25. and i hear that hubs are really cheap, and my friend can give me some networking cable, i just have to buy the connectors or "nipples" as he called them.

well the only reason i want a monitor is to see what i am doing. i dont want to have to switch back and forth with my current monitor between systems that would just be a pain. someone mentioned getting a "switch" for it, but thats more expensive that just getting another monitor thats $25.

No need for a monitor when using linux. And you can pick up cat5 connectors at home depot pretty cheap.
