Postby hooby » Sun Dec 02, 2001 10:54 am

the good old times, huh?
i've a little quiz for you:

1) what was the first ever computer game?

hint: it was in 1977. home computers didn't exist yet. it was programmed on large workstations and stored on ... (whats the english word for that stuff? the paper stripes with holes in it, used to store data these days..)

2) what was the fist computer game that ever hit the movies?

hint: produced by walt disney cooperation, sort of hacker-film. was a milestone for the movie industrie, because it was the first time, computer graphics were used the big style. parts of the film, the actors found themselves in a completely computer-generated environment

3) what was it, that really pushed the invention of the computer?

hint: it happened during the second world war in america.

4) who built the first desktop computer?

hint: he did it around 1980 all by himself, and is still successfull now.

5) where and how did the first ever lan-party take place?

hint: it was at a large european computer fair (cebit i guess, but not sure) where the first ever built network-cards were presented.

uhm... maybe i could think of more questions, but i'm too lazy. i'll post the answers within the next days... try and guess

The summer i played at [OESM] Slack Den of general ineptness 24/7

That's Den of Slack and General Ineptness. Ten bucks if you can tell me the name BEFORE that. This was the same summer Seph and I formed DHTA which died out quickly and I joined OESM where I finally got some solly skills.

I think I banned cheese from the irc channel for being really fucking annoying.

The invention of transistor tubes. The ENIAC was made up of somewhere near a couple thousand of them. <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote

Are we talking REAL desktop computer, or just some peices of wood nailed together in someone's garage? <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote

i can't say thats wrong technically seen this was truly THE invention...
what i was thinking of, was the hacking of the german enigma. politically seen, that was quite important, because never before anyone spended that much money in the developement of computers. by the way, the programmers (the hackers) were all women. men had to fight in the war. and they made it, they hacked the enigma and that helped definitely to turn the tide in the submarine war...

both i'd say. it was built by steve jobs and as far as i know he really "nailed" it together in his backyard or something alike. and to name this thing he just borowed the name of his favourite fruit: apple

incorrect.

Steve Wozniak was the first person to put together the wood and circuit boards to make the first desktop computer.

Steve Jobs was the business mind behind apple computer. He had no technical knowledge what-so-ever.

Well, even though it wasn't entirely productive, it was fun. Even when we were bitching about so and so taking whoever's flag cause some idiot with a rocket launcher *cough*it was a nail grenade*cough* killed the flag runner on "accident". And other idiots protesting the state of the match via spam on mm1 (oops) with "ZZZzzZZzzzZZZzzZZZZZ". And I'm still curious about your need for a military issue gas mask to mow your lawn, Rim...

rim is a funny bastard.

let's see. dave's ZZZzzzZZZ during the IOD match. me saying in mm2 during the very same match "let's not cap on them anymore" since we were up like 600 something to 0.

I remember sith banning me from the oesm server and the oesm channel, then stick giving me masters in the channel so sith couldn't ban me anymore.

hooby, you are welcome here
