Punk Buster on OESM servers

Postby [CD]MadMan » Fri Aug 10, 2001 4:59 pm

Sometimes when clans ask to use a server they ask if it has punk buster installed. I say no, and they say why not. I say dont know. So I just thought I'd ask the powers that be at OESM if punk buster is going to be setup on the OESM servers.

Thanks

Punk Buster on OESM servers

Postby DLinkOZ » Fri Aug 10, 2001 6:15 pm

We've tried the punkbuster server running on our linux boxes in the past. It crashes, it zombies, it's not terribly stable. And since 100% of our servers are linux, it's not possible at this time. However, it's not necessary to run it on the same physical machine as the game server. I suggest that if any clans need to have it running for either a match or just because they want it, to have a member with dsl or cable set it up on their pc using the server's IP and rcon pass. It'll then run like normal, only remotely.

I am, possibly, setting up a windows server here at my house (where the webserver used to be, and where the database server currently still is located), and at that time I'd be more than happy to run it for anyone who wants it to monitor their server (OESM server or not, I'd be happy to help). If I get some interested people, I'll do this and use the STA config to monitor against. Anyone else interested besides CD?

Thanks for such a quick response. Maybe in the future it will offer more opertunities for CD and Code of Honor to help clans out with match servers. But as of now this issue has only come up twice so its not a major issue yet.

If it becomes an issue again before I get my *shudder* win2k server up, just tell em to run the punkbuster server on their pc for their match.

OMG, what's going on with the STA lately? I'd like to take this time to dig up some pics from the past:

Punk Buster on OESM servers

Postby [CD]MadMan » Thu Aug 23, 2001 7:47 pm

Its come up again with an apparent change in the OGL requiring Punk Buster. While I know my servers are for the most part only used for mulching and the guild. I do lend them out to clans in need of a practice or match server. A startup clan I helping out is asking the question about punk buster on OESM. I just download a big long manual on the server side of things so I posting this with much understand of how remote monitoring and server side punk buster works. I was just wondering if any progress is being made to set up a remote monitor for all OESM servers.
